Faris Nourallah - Man In The Moon
Do you ever think about the man in the moon
Do you ever think that people thought it was god
Five million miles away, surrounded by stars
Always looking out for us we followed the stars
Long before we had cars
And we looked to the sky
And the man in the moon
But the days went by
And the need to know why
Seemed to coincide with ‘there’s no man in the moon’
Have we came along with all our rocket science
Turning simple things into a labyrinth beast
Have we gained a lot by keeping children’s tales
Have we come that far since the days we followed the stars
Long before we had cars
And we looked to the sky
And the man in the moon
But the days went by
And the need to know why
Seemed to coincide with ‘there’s no man in the moon’
Man in the moon
Do you ever think about the man in the moon

Morningside
Neil Diamond - Morningside
This is a fantasy.
Pure fantasy.
It’s a dream.
It’s a dream about an old man who dies alone.
And leaves a gift behind.
And it is a fantasy,.
Morningside
The old man died
And no one cried
They simply turned away
And when he died
He left a table made of nails and pride
And with his hands he carved these words inside
“For my children.”
Morning light
Morning bright
I spent the night
With dreams that make you weep
Morning tide
Wash away the sadness from these eyes of mine
For I recall the words an old man sighed
“For my children.”
And the legs they were shaped with his hands.
Ah, and the top made of oaken wood.
And all of the children that gathered around this great table and touched it with their laughter.
Ah, and that was good.
Morningside
An old man died
And no one cried
He surely died alone
The truth is sad
For not a child would claim the gift he had
The words he carved became his epitaph
“For my children.”

Little Black Ache
Bishop Allen - Little Black Ache
Chasing my excuses to the end of the night
Tried to make a friend, but it ended with a fight
I don’t know why and I don’t know when
But my keys have found a way to lock me out again
Sleeping on the subway in my interview tie
Wander through the rain, sit and wonder why
Haven’t got a plan, I haven’t got a clue
I’ve only got one lonely thing that’s gonna see me through
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
My little black ache won’t fade
Lovely little girl, crowded little place
I swear on this old Bible that I’ve never seen her face
She talks like I know what she’s talking about
Somewhere there’s a door that’s got to let me out
Hello, sleepless soul, I’m a’passing on the street
Know that like me you only rest on your feet
I know I had some friends, I can almost hear their names
Now I got one lonely thing and no one left to blame
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
My little black ache won’t fade
I’ve got my little black ache

Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Now you’re all gone, got your make-up on, and you’re not coming back (can’t you come back)
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that

Now you’re all gone, got your make-up on, and you’re not coming back
Bleaching your teeth, smile in a flash, talking trash under your breath

Best looking boys
The Promise Ring - Best Looking Boys
By the way I say your name I always know
And, by the way, I always say your name
So, let’s talk about anything
You make up drinks, I’ll make up things
And we’re never boring
‘Cause nobody knows
By the way I say your name I always know
And, by the way, I always say your name
Nothing changes but the words
And the weather, it’s better
And we’ll get older
And we’ll get good

Blind song
The Love Letter Band - Blind Song
It’s not the bright things that hurt our eyes
It’s the things we can’t see that make us blind
It’s not the loud things that hurt our ears
It’s the things we can’t hear that make us deaf
It’s not the words that are spoken to us
It’s the words left out that hurt the most
You never said I love you

Summer
Radiogram - Summer Song Summer
My idea of the perfect day
Would be to lie in bed and just melt away
The sun through my window casts its hazy rays
It turns reflections into memories
Another summer song summer
Full of one-hit number ones
Current on the charts
So that I can sing along
All the seasonal behavior
Yeah, the kids come on too strong
Another summer gone summer
But it’s someone else’s song
It’s been so long since we sang, so long
I didn’t know it’d be our one-hit song
We played it every hour all summer long
Until the needle broke under your thumb
Another summer gone summer
Full of one-hit wonder songs
Current on the charts
Still I try to sing along
All the seasonal behavior
Everyone comes on too strong
Another summer song summer
But it’s someone else’s song
My idea of the perfect day
Would be to lie in bed and just melt away

I Sent You Up
Knife In The Water - I Sent You Up
Well, I watched the fire in earnest
‘Cause I thought it would quell my pain
But the more that I saw you burning
The more I only felt the same
So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
Well, he turned you right back around
So, I put you on the canvas
Like a prison for all time
But I couldn’t stand to see your face
Sent chills along my spine
So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
But he turned you right back around
So, I cut you into pieces
And I threw you in the river
Now, the fishes, they all curse me
For the poison I deliver
So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
But he turned you right back around
Now your body’s in the ocean
About nine hundred miles from home
And your life it never left you
Well, it just wants to be alone
So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
But he turned you right back around

The President's Day Song
Dina Martina - The President's Day Song
Hey, grab everyone and tell them to bring their friends
‘cause President’s Day is here!
Tell Mary to call Diane!
Call Peter and bring him ‘round!
Remember the old gang from down the street?
Call them, too!
Call everyone and hurry ‘cause President’s Day is here!
Presidents, Presidents, how they come about
Well, get a chair and sit right there, and you will find right out
Way back East, I think it was, in Washington D.C.
A bunch of men with fresh new pens, they signed the Declaree
One got his wife to make a flag not a cake to bake
One said: “Hey, you guys, let’s all wear powdered wigs.”
Then they told the wife to make the flag red, white and blue
That’s how they began this land for me and you - hoo!
Now we all get to shout out our favorite presidents’ names.
It’s the funnest part, I think.
It should be occurring shortly.
George Washington
Abraham Linkon
Um…
Franklin Eleanor Roosevelt
Win - Winston Churchill
George Jefferson
Presidents, presidents, how they come about
Well, get a chair and sit right there, and you will find right out
Way back when, I think it was, in 1493
A little boy who had no toys chopped down a cherry tree
George, Georgie Washington chopped down a cherry tree
His mother was so sad, his father was real mad
They gave his axe away to the girl who lived next door
Her name was Lizzie Borden, I won’t tell you anymore - hoo!
Presidents of the land, I salute you!

Broken In
6X - Broken In
Been here once before
A thousand times or more
Think wanted too many
Now I’m not so sure
And I can’t even say your name
Without feeling the same way
And I can’t even share my heart
‘Cause you’ll tear it apart, no, no
Gave you all my time
Overlooked the signs
Suspended all my dreaming
Told myself I’m fine
I can’t even play your game
‘Cause your rules aren’t the same, no
And I can’t even share my heart
‘Cause you’ll tear it apart, no, no
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
Now you’re knocking at my door
And I don’t need you no more
Change is never easy
Now I’m keeping score
I can’t even say your name
Without feeling the same way

Giants in My Field
The Parkas - Giants In My Field
A push and a shove and off come the gloves
They cornered Paul like death from above
People are more than a little back room
To give them a case of the white gang blues
So, listen, I don’t care if we started it last time
Revenge is just a local, favorite pastime
I don’t care if you’re big and you’re small
The bigger they come, well, the harder they fall
‘Cause all the giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me
The giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me
That night after visiting hours
Jamie walked home and he got sour
He wanted payback before it got worse
In the end the opposition was reimbursed
So, listen, I don’t care if we started it last time
Revenge is just a local, favorite pastime
There’s nothing left to discuss
Mess with our friends and you’re messing with us
‘Cause all the giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me
The giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me
Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger
Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger

An Architect
The Decemberists - Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect
Here I dreamt I was a soldier
And I marched the streets of Birkenau
And I recall in spring the perfume that the air would bring
To the indolent town
Where the barkers call the moon down
The carnival is ringing loudly now
And just to lay with you there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do
Save lay my rifle down
And try one
And try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this way
And I am nothing of a builder
But here I dreamt I was an architect
And I built this balustrade to keep you home, to keep you safe
From the outside world
But the angles and the corners
Even though my work is unparalleled
They never seemed to meet, this structure fell about our feet
And we were free to go
And try one
And try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
Okay
Guess it’s better to turn this way
And here in Spain I am a Spaniard
I will be buried with my marionettes
Countess and courtesan will fall ‘neath my tender hand
When their husbands were not around
But you, my soiled teenage girlfriend
Or are you furrowed like a lioness
And we are vagabonds, we travel without seatbelts on
We live this close to death
And try one
And try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this
But I won
So you lose
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this way

Guess it’s better to turn this way
And here in Spain I am a Spaniard
I will be buried with my marionettes
Countess and courtesan will fall ‘neath my tender hand
When their husbands were not around
But you, my soiled teenage girlfriend
Or are you furrowed like a lioness
And we are vagabonds, we travel without seatbelts on
We live this close to death
And try one
And try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this
But I won
So you lose
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this way

Ask Johnny Dee
The Chesterfields - Ask Johnny Dee
Well, if you’d like to know what pop stars have for tea
Ask Johnny Dee
And in which motor car it’s safe to be seen
Ask Johnny Dee
And would you like to know what pop kids wear in the sea
Ask Johnny Dee
And, tell me, who is the girl who plays the tambourine
She just came to be
Close to Johnny Dee
To say:
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Why don’t you tell me, tell me Mr. Dee
Tell me who is the girl who plays the tambourine
She just wants to be
Close to Johnny Dee
To Say:
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
And would you like to know who’s No. 1 in our hearts
Johnny Dee!
Yes, Mr. Pop at the top of our charts
Johnny Dee
And would you like to know where we’re staying tonight
With Johnny Dee
And so is the girl who plays the tambourine
She just has to be
Close to Johnny Dee
To say:
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Come on now, tell me, tell me Mr. Dee

Negative Kid
Kid Dakota - Negative Kid
Lately I’ve been having lots of nightmares
I have not been sleeping very well
The things I’ve done, they never cease to haunt me
They follow me around like a lost puppy dog
Maybe in a couple years
I can make friends of my fears
And the past won’t run ahead and slow me down
And maybe in a little while
I could learn to smile
Without the help of alcohol and drugs
Lately I’ve been seeing lots of doctors
He tested negative kid have some fun
So I sit at home watching figure skating
I surf the web for interracial porn
And maybe in a couple years
I can make friends of my fears
And the past won’t run ahead and slow me down

Let's Play Life
Wally Pleasant - Let's Play Life
I’ve got a twelve-pack of beer and the food’s on its way
A brand new Risk board game and I’m ready to play
You can go first after the pieces have been disbursed
From the Northwest Territory to Madagascar
You’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen, by far
And I wish you luck on your quest to rule the world
And I can’t help but smile as your army attacks
I bet Napoleon Bonaparte never felt this relaxed
Please don’t get mad if I make up the rules as we go
There’s so much to Risk, there’s so much to lose
If you sank my Battleship, I’d still look for Clues
My Pursuits aren’t Trivial, you have a Monopoly on my heart
You can Twister around, but please don’t tear it apart
Baby, next time, let’s play Life
Well, it’s Friday night and I can’t help my Fascination
With the way the light hits your face in world domination
As the Ukraine gets attacked from the west
And when the rolling dice stops and our little game ends
If your empire’s destroyed, can we still be friends
Please take a card, I wouldn’t wanna cheat you
There’s so much to Risk, there’s so much to lose
If you sank my Battleship, I’d still look for Clues
My Pursuits aren’t Trivial, you have a Monopoly on my heart
You can Twister around, but please don’t tear it apart
Baby, next time, let’s play Life
Checkers
No no no
Chess?
Moves way too slow
Sorry
Uh, I’ve gotta go
Scrabble
Can’t get into the flow
Flow
There’s so much to Risk, there’s so much to lose
If you sank my Battleship, I’d still look for Clues
My Pursuits aren’t Trivial, you have a Monopoly on my heart
You can Twister around, but please don’t tear it apart
Baby, next time, let’s play Life
And we could fly from the board up to the stars
In our little plastic pastel cars
Baby, next time, let’s play Life
And if you accepted my invitation gladly
I would thank god for Milton Bradley

The Little Girl
John Michael Montgomery - The Little Girl
Her parents never took the young girl to Church
Never spoke of His name, never read her His word
Two non-believers walking lost in this world
Took their baby with them, what a sad little girl
Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs
Never wanted to play or give kisses and hugs
She’d watch the TV and sit there on the couch
While her mom fell asleep and her daddy went out
And the drinking and the fighting
Just got worse every night
Behind their couch she’d be hiding
Oh, what a sad little life
And like it always does the bad just got worse
With every slap and every curse
Until her daddy in a drunk rage one night
Used a gun on her mom and then took his life
And some people from the city
Took the girl far away
To a new mom and a new dad
Kisses and hugs every day
Her first day of Sunday School the teacher walked in
And a small little girl stared at a picture of Him
She said I know that man up there on that cross
I don’t know His name but I know He got off
‘Cause He was there in my old house
And held me close to His side
As I hid there behind our couch
The night that my parents died

Me and Mr. Kennedy
The Soft Boys - Mr. Kennedy
Coming into Harrisburg
Never seen a body look so tense
Tell me Mr. Kennedy
Have you ever seen the clouds so dense?
Coming into Cleveland
Riding in the van with Sebadoh
Tell me Mr. Kennedy
Have you ever seen the clouds so low?
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Coming into Paradise
Thinking that I must have been here once
Me and Mr. Kennedy
Haven’t seen a blade of grass in months
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Here she comes, here she comes again
Here she comes as she comes as she comes as she comes as she…
Coming into Pittsburgh
Dreaming of a thousand open shops
Me and Mr. Kennedy
Stretching out to catch the first few drops
Tell me Mr. Kennedy
Can you make it rain, can you make it rain tonight?
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Ah, maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Maybe it’ll rain…

Eve of Destruction
Bishop Allen - Eve Of Destruction
King Chris Coyne, Total Shams, and Shoeless Jed
Wise Chyld King, Sean and Reshma, Coll and Brian
Darkhorse Jack setting things on fire at Glass
Fernie’s got a drink and Blake’s got a wedding ring
Darya the Mad Russian, Lissa who gave up her naps
Dia Sokol, Dan Mooney, Errol and ol’ Jackpot Junior
Doug and Nell, Randy Bell, drums on Microsoft Excel and Margaret Wells
Lynchburg, Williamsburg, Park Drive and Austin, Texas
Car alarms on Grand Street, English 10a, Piper, Rege and Matt and K
Getting weird with the Buj, all the folks down at DuMont
Bonnie, who sings on our records, Sam and Max, the Therien fam
Young Farrington, Blair, Myles’ brother, and Myles
Amie Barrodale and everyone we know named Christian
James and Clayton, Hamm’s and the Champagne School
And I tell you over and over and over again, my friend
That I’m down with you, even on the eve of destruction
And if this moment is gone in a flash
And my hand in yours becomes ash in ash
And everyone becomes just dust in the blast
At least this day will be our last
And I tell you over and over and over again, my friend
That I’m down with you, even on the eve of destruction
Maybe St. Peter won’t let us in
Saying heaven’s a place for the innocent
And we’ll have a dance, yeah a dance, on the head of a pin
And God will grin and shoo us away
And I tell you over and over and over again, my friend

Iron And Wine
Iron And Wine - Jesus The Mexican Boy
Jesus the Mexican boy
Born in a truck on the fourth of July
Gave me a card with a lady naked on the back
Barefoot at night on the road
Fireworks blooming above in the sky
I never knew I was given the best one from the deck
He never wanted nothing I remember
Maybe a broken bottle if I had two
Hanging behind his holy even temper
Hiding the more unholy things I do
Jesus the Mexican boy
Gave me a ride on the back of his bike
Out to the fair though I welched on a five dollar bet
Drunk on calliope songs
We met a home-wrecking carnival girl
He’s never asked for a favor or the money yet
Jesus the Mexican boy
Born in a truck on the fourth of July
I fell in love with his sister unrepentantly
Fearing he wouldn’t approve
We made a lie that was feeble at best
Boarded a train bound for Vegas and married secretly
I never gave him nothing I remember
Maybe a broken bottle if I had to
Hanging behind his holy even temper
Hiding the more unholy things I do
Jesus the Mexican boy
Wearing a long desert trip on his tie
Lo and behold he was standing under the welcome sign
Naked the Judas in me
Fell by the tracks but he lifted me high
Kissing my head like a brother and never asking why

Hell Yes
Alkaline Trio - Hell Yes
I gave up on you a long time ago
How can you blame me?
We made plans to meet and you never showed
You kept me waiting
They said everything would work out just fine
They said you’d help me
But as it turns out it was all a lie
And they’re off someplace far away laughing at me
You’ve been there for me one time in my life
But it didn’t matter
You came and went so fast all my hope
And faith in you shattered
And now here I sit alone in this room
No one to confide in
You watched all my dreams come apart at the seams
You laughed, you left, you waited in hiding
Bless me dark father I have sinned
I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again
‘Cause it keeps me warm and makes you smile
Been beneath me all the while
Hell yes
You gave up on me a long time ago
I can’t say I blame you
I rejected the faith in your holy rays
Is what it comes down to
They said everything would work out just fine
I just went crazy
But I’m better now having a good time
Being selfish, and drunken, and vulgar, and lazy
Bless me dark father I have sinned
I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again
‘Cause it keeps me warm and makes you smile
Been beneath me all the while
Bless me dark father I can’t win
Without you I’m as good as dead
‘Cause you keep me warm, you make me smile
You’ve been on my shoulder all the while
Whispering sweet nothings

You’ve been whispering sweet nothings

I'll Be Around
The Nourallah Brothers - I'll Be Around
If you need a friend to call
With something big or something small
I’ll be around…I’ll be around
And if you need a friends advice
Think of me and don’t think twice
I’ll be around, yeah, I’ll be around
I wish that I could talk to you
Explain the way that I feel about you
If only I could find the words
To let you know how I feel about you
But I’ll be around…I’ll be around
And if you need a friend to call
To talk of nothing much at all
One thing, darling
I’ll be around…I’ll be around
Forget about the other guys
Forget about the other guys
They won’t be around when your heart is broken
They’ll leave without a sound when the window’s open
Darling, please forget about the other guys
Maybe if I’m patient there will come a day
When you’ll reach out to me and let me show the way
That I really feel about you
Forget about the other guys
Forget about the other guys
They won’t be around when your heart is broken
They’ll leave without a sound when the window’s open

Black Cab
Jens Lekman - Black Cab
Oh no, goddamn
I missed the last tram
I killed the party again
Goddamn, goddamn
I wanna sleep in my bed
I wanna clean up my head
Don’t wanna look this dead
Don’t wanna feel this dread
I killed the party again
I ruined it for my friends
Well, you’re so silent, Jens
Well, maybe I am, maybe I am
Now at the Central Station
No time for being patient
I feel like going home
But at the same time, I don’t
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
And I’ve heard all those stories
‘Bout the Black Cabs and the way they drive
That if you take a ride with them
You may not come back alive
They might be psycho-killers
But tonight, I really don’t care
So I said turn up the music
Take me home or take me anywhere
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
You don’t know anything
So don’t ask me questions
You don’t know anything
So, please don’t ask me any questions
You don’t know anything
So don’t ask me questions
Just turn the music up
And keep your mouth shut
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
