Man In The Moon

Faris Nourallah - Man In The Moon

Do you ever think about the man in the moon
Do you ever think that people thought it was god
Five million miles away, surrounded by stars
Always looking out for us we followed the stars
Long before we had cars
And we looked to the sky
And the man in the moon
But the days went by
And the need to know why
Seemed to coincide with ‘there’s no man in the moon’

Have we came along with all our rocket science
Turning simple things into a labyrinth beast
Have we gained a lot by keeping children’s tales
Have we come that far since the days we followed the stars
Long before we had cars
And we looked to the sky
And the man in the moon
But the days went by
And the need to know why
Seemed to coincide with ‘there’s no man in the moon’
Man in the moon

Do you ever think about the man in the moon

Morningside

Neil Diamond - Morningside

This is a fantasy.
Pure fantasy.
It’s a dream.
It’s a dream about an old man who dies alone.
And leaves a gift behind.
And it is a fantasy,.

Morningside
The old man died
And no one cried
They simply turned away
And when he died
He left a table made of nails and pride
And with his hands he carved these words inside
“For my children.”

Morning light
Morning bright
I spent the night
With dreams that make you weep
Morning tide
Wash away the sadness from these eyes of mine
For I recall the words an old man sighed
“For my children.”

And the legs they were shaped with his hands.
Ah, and the top made of oaken wood.
And all of the children that gathered around this great table and touched it with their laughter.
Ah, and that was good.

Morningside
An old man died
And no one cried
He surely died alone
The truth is sad
For not a child would claim the gift he had
The words he carved became his epitaph
“For my children.”

Home.
Santos.
Home.
Home.
Home.

Little Black Ache

Bishop Allen - Little Black Ache

Chasing my excuses to the end of the night
Tried to make a friend, but it ended with a fight
I don’t know why and I don’t know when
But my keys have found a way to lock me out again

Sleeping on the subway in my interview tie
Wander through the rain, sit and wonder why
Haven’t got a plan, I haven’t got a clue
I’ve only got one lonely thing that’s gonna see me through

I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
My little black ache won’t fade

Lovely little girl, crowded little place
I swear on this old Bible that I’ve never seen her face
She talks like I know what she’s talking about
Somewhere there’s a door that’s got to let me out

Hello, sleepless soul, I’m a’passing on the street
Know that like me you only rest on your feet
I know I had some friends, I can almost hear their names
Now I got one lonely thing and no one left to blame

I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
My little black ache won’t fade

I’ve got my little black ache
I’ve got my little black ache
I’ve got my little black ache
My little black ache won’t fade

I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
My little black ache won’t fade

I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
I’ve got my little black ache (black ache) What you got?
My little black ache won’t fade

Anthems

Broken Social Scene - Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl

Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Now you’re all gone, got your make-up on, and you’re not coming back (can’t you come back)
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that
Now you’re all gone, got your make-up on, and you’re not coming back
Bleaching your teeth, smile in a flash, talking trash under your breath
Bleaching your teeth, smile in a flash, talking trash under your breath
Bleaching your teeth, smile in a flash, talking trash under your breath
Bleaching your teeth, smile in a flash, talking trash under my window

Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
Park that car, drop that phone, park that car, drop that phone
Park that car, drop that phone, park that car, drop that phone

Best looking boys

The Promise Ring - Best Looking Boys

By the way I say your name I always know
And, by the way, I always say your name

So, let’s talk about anything
You make up drinks, I’ll make up things
And we’re never boring
‘Cause nobody knows

By the way I say your name I always know
And, by the way, I always say your name

Nothing changes but the words
And the weather, it’s better
And we’ll get older
And we’ll get good

Michael D., David K.
Best looking boys go all the way
Michael D., David K.
Best looking boys go all the way
Michael D., David K.
Best looking boys go all the way
Home is where they hang out
It’s where they go

Best looking boys go all the way
Best looking boys go all the way
Best looking boys go all the way
Best looking boys go all the way

Blind song

The Love Letter Band - Blind Song

It’s not the bright things that hurt our eyes
It’s the things we can’t see that make us blind

It’s not the loud things that hurt our ears
It’s the things we can’t hear that make us deaf

It’s not the words that are spoken to us
It’s the words left out that hurt the most

You never said I love you

Summer

Radiogram - Summer Song Summer

My idea of the perfect day
Would be to lie in bed and just melt away
The sun through my window casts its hazy rays
It turns reflections into memories

Another summer song summer
Full of one-hit number ones
Current on the charts
So that I can sing along
All the seasonal behavior
Yeah, the kids come on too strong
Another summer gone summer
But it’s someone else’s song

It’s been so long since we sang, so long
I didn’t know it’d be our one-hit song
We played it every hour all summer long
Until the needle broke under your thumb

Another summer gone summer
Full of one-hit wonder songs
Current on the charts
Still I try to sing along
All the seasonal behavior
Everyone comes on too strong
Another summer song summer
But it’s someone else’s song

My idea of the perfect day
Would be to lie in bed and just melt away

Another summer song summer
Full of one-hit number ones
Current on the charts
Everybody sing along
All the seasonal behavior
I’ve been coming on too strong
Another summer gone summer
But it’s someone else’s song

I Sent You Up

Knife In The Water - I Sent You Up

Well, I watched the fire in earnest
‘Cause I thought it would quell my pain
But the more that I saw you burning
The more I only felt the same

So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
Well, he turned you right back around

So, I put you on the canvas
Like a prison for all time
But I couldn’t stand to see your face
Sent chills along my spine

So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
But he turned you right back around

So, I cut you into pieces
And I threw you in the river
Now, the fishes, they all curse me
For the poison I deliver

So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
But he turned you right back around

Now your body’s in the ocean
About nine hundred miles from home
And your life it never left you
Well, it just wants to be alone

So, I sent you up
But the angels turned you down
And the devil already had you
But he turned you right back around

The President's Day Song

Dina Martina - The President's Day Song

Hey, grab everyone and tell them to bring their friends
‘cause President’s Day is here!
Tell Mary to call Diane!
Call Peter and bring him ‘round!
Remember the old gang from down the street?
Call them, too!
Call everyone and hurry ‘cause President’s Day is here!

Presidents, Presidents, how they come about
Well, get a chair and sit right there, and you will find right out
Way back East, I think it was, in Washington D.C.
A bunch of men with fresh new pens, they signed the Declaree
One got his wife to make a flag not a cake to bake
One said: “Hey, you guys, let’s all wear powdered wigs.”
Then they told the wife to make the flag red, white and blue
That’s how they began this land for me and you - hoo!

Now we all get to shout out our favorite presidents’ names.
It’s the funnest part, I think.
It should be occurring shortly.
George Washington
Abraham Linkon
Um…
Franklin Eleanor Roosevelt
Win - Winston Churchill
George Jefferson

Presidents, presidents, how they come about
Well, get a chair and sit right there, and you will find right out
Way back when, I think it was, in 1493
A little boy who had no toys chopped down a cherry tree
George, Georgie Washington chopped down a cherry tree
His mother was so sad, his father was real mad
They gave his axe away to the girl who lived next door
Her name was Lizzie Borden, I won’t tell you anymore - hoo!

Presidents of the land, I salute you!

Broken In

6X - Broken In

Been here once before
A thousand times or more
Think wanted too many
Now I’m not so sure
And I can’t even say your name
Without feeling the same way
And I can’t even share my heart
‘Cause you’ll tear it apart, no, no

Gave you all my time
Overlooked the signs
Suspended all my dreaming
Told myself I’m fine
I can’t even play your game
‘Cause your rules aren’t the same, no
And I can’t even share my heart
‘Cause you’ll tear it apart, no, no

You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in

Now you’re knocking at my door
And I don’t need you no more
Change is never easy
Now I’m keeping score
I can’t even say your name
Without feeling the same way
And I can’t even share my heart
‘Cause you’ll tear it apart, no, no

You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in

I can’t even say your name
Without feeling the same way
I can’t even share my heart
‘Cause you’ll tear it apart, no, no

You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in
You’ve been broken in, oh ho

Giants in My Field

The Parkas - Giants In My Field

A push and a shove and off come the gloves
They cornered Paul like death from above
People are more than a little back room
To give them a case of the white gang blues

So, listen, I don’t care if we started it last time
Revenge is just a local, favorite pastime
I don’t care if you’re big and you’re small
The bigger they come, well, the harder they fall

‘Cause all the giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me
The giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me

That night after visiting hours
Jamie walked home and he got sour
He wanted payback before it got worse
In the end the opposition was reimbursed

So, listen, I don’t care if we started it last time
Revenge is just a local, favorite pastime
There’s nothing left to discuss
Mess with our friends and you’re messing with us

‘Cause all the giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me
The giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me

Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger
Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger
Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger
Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger
Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger
Young Paul Thompson fights with Tiger
R-E-V-E-N-G-E
Find out what it means to be, yeah!
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
All the giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me
The giants in my field
Keep casting your shadows down on me

An Architect

The Decemberists - Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect

Here I dreamt I was a soldier
And I marched the streets of Birkenau
And I recall in spring the perfume that the air would bring
To the indolent town

Where the barkers call the moon down
The carnival is ringing loudly now
And just to lay with you there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do
Save lay my rifle down

And try one
And try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this way

And I am nothing of a builder
But here I dreamt I was an architect
And I built this balustrade to keep you home, to keep you safe
From the outside world

But the angles and the corners
Even though my work is unparalleled
They never seemed to meet, this structure fell about our feet
And we were free to go

And try one
And try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
Okay
Guess it’s better to turn this way

And here in Spain I am a Spaniard
I will be buried with my marionettes
Countess and courtesan will fall ‘neath my tender hand
When their husbands were not around
But you, my soiled teenage girlfriend
Or are you furrowed like a lioness
And we are vagabonds, we travel without seatbelts on
We live this close to death

And try one
And try two
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this
But I won
So you lose
Guess it always comes down to
Alright
It’s OK
Guess it’s better to turn this way

Ask Johnny Dee

The Chesterfields - Ask Johnny Dee

Well, if you’d like to know what pop stars have for tea
Ask Johnny Dee
And in which motor car it’s safe to be seen
Ask Johnny Dee
And would you like to know what pop kids wear in the sea
Ask Johnny Dee
And, tell me, who is the girl who plays the tambourine
She just came to be
Close to Johnny Dee
To say:
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba

Why don’t you tell me, tell me Mr. Dee
Tell me who is the girl who plays the tambourine
She just wants to be
Close to Johnny Dee
To Say:
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba

And would you like to know who’s No. 1 in our hearts
Johnny Dee!
Yes, Mr. Pop at the top of our charts
Johnny Dee
And would you like to know where we’re staying tonight
With Johnny Dee
And so is the girl who plays the tambourine
She just has to be
Close to Johnny Dee
To say:
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba

Come on now, tell me, tell me Mr. Dee
Why don’t you tell me, tell me Mr. Dee
Why don’t you tell me, tell me Mr. Dee
Tell me please, tell me please Mr. Dee

Negative Kid

Kid Dakota - Negative Kid

Lately I’ve been having lots of nightmares
I have not been sleeping very well
The things I’ve done, they never cease to haunt me
They follow me around like a lost puppy dog
Maybe in a couple years
I can make friends of my fears
And the past won’t run ahead and slow me down
And maybe in a little while
I could learn to smile
Without the help of alcohol and drugs

Lately I’ve been seeing lots of doctors
He tested negative kid have some fun
So I sit at home watching figure skating
I surf the web for interracial porn
And maybe in a couple years
I can make friends of my fears
And the past won’t run ahead and slow me down
And maybe in a little while
I could learn to smile
Without the help of alcohol and drugs

Let's Play Life

Wally Pleasant - Let's Play Life

I’ve got a twelve-pack of beer and the food’s on its way
A brand new Risk board game and I’m ready to play
You can go first after the pieces have been disbursed
From the Northwest Territory to Madagascar
You’re the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen, by far
And I wish you luck on your quest to rule the world
And I can’t help but smile as your army attacks
I bet Napoleon Bonaparte never felt this relaxed
Please don’t get mad if I make up the rules as we go

There’s so much to Risk, there’s so much to lose
If you sank my Battleship, I’d still look for Clues
My Pursuits aren’t Trivial, you have a Monopoly on my heart
You can Twister around, but please don’t tear it apart
Baby, next time, let’s play Life

Well, it’s Friday night and I can’t help my Fascination
With the way the light hits your face in world domination
As the Ukraine gets attacked from the west
And when the rolling dice stops and our little game ends
If your empire’s destroyed, can we still be friends
Please take a card, I wouldn’t wanna cheat you

There’s so much to Risk, there’s so much to lose
If you sank my Battleship, I’d still look for Clues
My Pursuits aren’t Trivial, you have a Monopoly on my heart
You can Twister around, but please don’t tear it apart
Baby, next time, let’s play Life

Checkers
No no no
Chess?
Moves way too slow
Sorry
Uh, I’ve gotta go
Scrabble
Can’t get into the flow
Flow
There’s so much to Risk, there’s so much to lose
If you sank my Battleship, I’d still look for Clues
My Pursuits aren’t Trivial, you have a Monopoly on my heart
You can Twister around, but please don’t tear it apart
Baby, next time, let’s play Life

And we could fly from the board up to the stars
In our little plastic pastel cars
Baby, next time, let’s play Life
And if you accepted my invitation gladly
I would thank god for Milton Bradley
Baby, next time, let’s play Life

The Little Girl

John Michael Montgomery - The Little Girl

Her parents never took the young girl to Church
Never spoke of His name, never read her His word
Two non-believers walking lost in this world
Took their baby with them, what a sad little girl

Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs
Never wanted to play or give kisses and hugs
She’d watch the TV and sit there on the couch
While her mom fell asleep and her daddy went out

And the drinking and the fighting
Just got worse every night
Behind their couch she’d be hiding
Oh, what a sad little life

And like it always does the bad just got worse
With every slap and every curse
Until her daddy in a drunk rage one night
Used a gun on her mom and then took his life

And some people from the city
Took the girl far away
To a new mom and a new dad
Kisses and hugs every day

Her first day of Sunday School the teacher walked in
And a small little girl stared at a picture of Him
She said I know that man up there on that cross
I don’t know His name but I know He got off

‘Cause He was there in my old house
And held me close to His side
As I hid there behind our couch
The night that my parents died

Me and Mr. Kennedy

The Soft Boys - Mr. Kennedy

Coming into Harrisburg
Never seen a body look so tense
Tell me Mr. Kennedy
Have you ever seen the clouds so dense?

Coming into Cleveland
Riding in the van with Sebadoh
Tell me Mr. Kennedy
Have you ever seen the clouds so low?

Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight

Coming into Paradise
Thinking that I must have been here once
Me and Mr. Kennedy
Haven’t seen a blade of grass in months

Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight

Here she comes, here she comes again
Here she comes as she comes as she comes as she comes as she…

Coming into Pittsburgh
Dreaming of a thousand open shops
Me and Mr. Kennedy
Stretching out to catch the first few drops

Tell me Mr. Kennedy
Can you make it rain, can you make it rain tonight?
Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Ah, maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll rain tonight
Maybe it’ll rain…

And my hand in yours becomes ash in ash
And everyone becomes just dust in the blast
At least this day will be our last

And I tell you over and over and over again, my friend
That I’m down with you, even on the eve of destruction

Maybe St. Peter won’t let us in
Saying heaven’s a place for the innocent
And we’ll have a dance, yeah a dance, on the head of a pin
And God will grin and shoo us away

And I tell you over and over and over again, my friend
That I’m down with you, even on the eve of destruction
And I tell you over and over and over again, my friend
That I’m down with you, even on the eve of destruction

Iron And Wine

Iron And Wine - Jesus The Mexican Boy

Jesus the Mexican boy
Born in a truck on the fourth of July
Gave me a card with a lady naked on the back
Barefoot at night on the road
Fireworks blooming above in the sky
I never knew I was given the best one from the deck

He never wanted nothing I remember
Maybe a broken bottle if I had two
Hanging behind his holy even temper
Hiding the more unholy things I do

Jesus the Mexican boy
Gave me a ride on the back of his bike
Out to the fair though I welched on a five dollar bet
Drunk on calliope songs
We met a home-wrecking carnival girl
He’s never asked for a favor or the money yet

Jesus the Mexican boy
Born in a truck on the fourth of July
I fell in love with his sister unrepentantly
Fearing he wouldn’t approve
We made a lie that was feeble at best
Boarded a train bound for Vegas and married secretly

I never gave him nothing I remember
Maybe a broken bottle if I had to
Hanging behind his holy even temper
Hiding the more unholy things I do

Jesus the Mexican boy
Wearing a long desert trip on his tie
Lo and behold he was standing under the welcome sign
Naked the Judas in me
Fell by the tracks but he lifted me high
Kissing my head like a brother and never asking why

Hell Yes

Alkaline Trio - Hell Yes

I gave up on you a long time ago
How can you blame me?
We made plans to meet and you never showed
You kept me waiting
They said everything would work out just fine
They said you’d help me
But as it turns out it was all a lie
And they’re off someplace far away laughing at me

You’ve been there for me one time in my life
But it didn’t matter
You came and went so fast all my hope
And faith in you shattered
And now here I sit alone in this room
No one to confide in
You watched all my dreams come apart at the seams
You laughed, you left, you waited in hiding

Bless me dark father I have sinned
I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again
‘Cause it keeps me warm and makes you smile
Been beneath me all the while
Hell yes

You gave up on me a long time ago
I can’t say I blame you
I rejected the faith in your holy rays
Is what it comes down to
They said everything would work out just fine
I just went crazy
But I’m better now having a good time
Being selfish, and drunken, and vulgar, and lazy

Bless me dark father I have sinned
I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again
‘Cause it keeps me warm and makes you smile
Been beneath me all the while

Bless me dark father I can’t win
Without you I’m as good as dead
‘Cause you keep me warm, you make me smile
You’ve been on my shoulder all the while

Whispering sweet nothings
Whispering sweet nothings
Whispering sweet nothings
You’ve been whispering sweet nothings

I'll Be Around

The Nourallah Brothers - I'll Be Around

If you need a friend to call
With something big or something small
I’ll be around…I’ll be around

And if you need a friends advice
Think of me and don’t think twice
I’ll be around, yeah, I’ll be around

I wish that I could talk to you
Explain the way that I feel about you
If only I could find the words
To let you know how I feel about you
But I’ll be around…I’ll be around

And if you need a friend to call
To talk of nothing much at all
One thing, darling
I’ll be around…I’ll be around

Forget about the other guys
Forget about the other guys
They won’t be around when your heart is broken
They’ll leave without a sound when the window’s open
Darling, please forget about the other guys

Maybe if I’m patient there will come a day
When you’ll reach out to me and let me show the way
That I really feel about you

Forget about the other guys
Forget about the other guys
They won’t be around when your heart is broken
They’ll leave without a sound when the window’s open
Darling, please forget about the other guys

I’ll be around…I’ll be around

But if you need a friend to call
Day or night’s no matter at all
One thing, darling
I’ll be around

Black Cab

Jens Lekman - Black Cab

Oh no, goddamn
I missed the last tram
I killed the party again
Goddamn, goddamn

I wanna sleep in my bed
I wanna clean up my head
Don’t wanna look this dead
Don’t wanna feel this dread

I killed the party again
I ruined it for my friends
Well, you’re so silent, Jens
Well, maybe I am, maybe I am

Now at the Central Station
No time for being patient
I feel like going home
But at the same time, I don’t

Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab

And I’ve heard all those stories
‘Bout the Black Cabs and the way they drive
That if you take a ride with them
You may not come back alive
They might be psycho-killers
But tonight, I really don’t care
So I said turn up the music
Take me home or take me anywhere

Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab

You don’t know anything
So don’t ask me questions
You don’t know anything
So, please don’t ask me any questions
You don’t know anything
So don’t ask me questions
Just turn the music up
And keep your mouth shut

Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab
Black cab, black ca-a-a-ab

Every Song Needs A Chorus

Sybaris - Every Song Needs A Chorus

Building a song needs a thought
Or a feel about something to reveal
You will certainly need some drums
To come - to come - to keep the beat

It doesn’t even have to rhyme
At least not on words like “sign,” “time” or even worse “rhyme”
You’ll surely need a bass
Some strings and a bit of a piano

And not to forget
Every song needs a chorus
Otherwise it’ll bore us
And no one would remember
Not even on a cold December evening

When you’re done with the song
The lyrics, the instruments - you gotta mix it down
Pan some things left, some right
Some centered and the EQ turns ‘em bright

And some songs have a solo…

And not to forget
Every song needs a chorus
Otherwise it’ll bore us
And no one would remember
Not even on a cold December evening

(This is the bridge)
A song is like life
Like a universe in a box
(This is the bridge)
Every line is a pic of you
But the chords ain’t the same
(This is the bridge)
Whatever you make of it
You’re composing your song all new
But you always return
To the point where it all began

And not to forget
Every song needs a chorus
Otherwise it’ll bore us
And no one would remember
Not even on a cold December evening

And every song needs an end

El Paso

Felix McTiegue - El Paso

The outskirts of El Paso are burning in the night
Like pinholes punched in paper and held up to the light
I’m dying to forget you, I roll the window down
Think about a cigarette and recognize the sound

Of the first few bars
Of ‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ In The Rain’
On the radio

Flashback to the summer of nineteen ninety-nine
You were off to school and I was killing time
We’d sit up on the front porch, you were playing, I would sing
We bought ‘Willie Nelson’s Greatest Hits’ and learned the whole damn thing

We would pick and grin
To ‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ In The Rain’
As the sun hung low
You’ll never know
How much you mean to me

Van Halen’s on the radio - the old stuff ‘Diver Down’
Right before David left and Sammy came around
I listen to it three times fade across New Mexico
When I hit eject it turns on the radio

I hear the first few bars
Of ‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ In The Rain’
On the radio
You’ll never know
How much you mean to me

I’ve since left New York City, I’m staying in L.A.
With each new vice that I pick up, you still don’t go away
Driving drunk down Fairfax with a sunburn on one arm
I recognize the sound coming through the car alarms

I hear the first few bars
Of ‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ In The Rain’
On the radio
You’ll never know
How much you mean to me

Tractor Guy

Hrududu Factory Tractor Guy

The funny man with the tractor isn’t afraid
He’s a master of his trade
Digging the holes to make me smile
And I break your heart by telling lies
To the tractor guy
As he destroys your little home
He goes huh
He goes huh
Huh and huh
He goes huh

The funny man with the tractor has got no name
He’s the one they call insane
Digging up trees all over town
And I break your heart by selling lies
With the tractor guy
Making you move to far off lands
He goes huh
He goes huh
And huh
He goes huh
Huh and huh
He goes huh

I can’t be your best friend anymore
I can’t be your best friend anymore
I can’t be your best friend anymore
I can’t be your best friend anymore
I can’t be your best friend anymore - anymore

He goes huh, etc.

It was a beautiful car

M Ward - Beautiful Car

I was washing antique cars
Working part-time for my dad after school
When I got the go ahead
To pick a car and spin around the neighborhood
It was a baby blue ‘52 Roadstar
It was a beautiful car

That was the night I heard of the fighting
And the murder of the Schoolmaster’s son
Last year I asked him who he was afraid of
And he answered: Everyone
Well, did I even flinch a wrist?
Should I have tried to undo what had been done
That’s just the way it’s gotta be
I should never have to worry myself none
It was a baby blue ‘52 Roadstar
It was a beautiful car

Palmcorder Yajna

The Mountain Goats - Palmcorder Yajna

Holt Boulevard
Between Gary and White
Hooked up with some friends at the Travelodge
Set ourselves up for the night

Carpenter ants in the dresser
Flies in the screen
It will be too late by the time we learn
What these cryptic symbols mean

And I dreamt of a house
Haunted by all you tweakers with your hands out
And the headstones climbed up the hills
And the headstones climbed up the hills

Send somebody out for soda
Comb through the carpet for clues
Reflective tape on our sweatpants
Big holes in our shoes
Every couple minutes
Someone says he can’t stand it anymore
Laugh lines on our faces
Scale maps of the ocean floor

And I dreamt of a camera
Pointing out from inside the television
And the aperture yawning and blinking
And the headstones climbed up the hills

If anybody comes to see me
Tell ‘em they just missed me by a minute
If anybody comes in to our room while we’re asleep
I hope they incinerate everybody in it

And I dreamt of a factory
Where they manufactured what I needed
Using shiny new machines
And the headstones climbed up the hills

He War

Cat Power - He War

I never meant to be the needle that broke your back
You were here, you were here, you were here
Don’t look back
I never meant to be the needle that broke your back
You were here, you were here, you were here
Don’t look back

He war - he war
He will kill for you

He will kill for you, ah

You know you can

Hey hey hey-y-y-y-y

And if you want me to run with it
We’re on to your same old trick
Get up and run away with it

We’re on to your same old trick

Crazy Molly could not be alone

The Neat Stripes - Molly

Crazy Molly could not be alone
If no one was with her she’d pick up the phone
Except for the time when the lines went down
Poor Molly smashed the phone on the ground and she cried
Ah, but she was alright

When Molly went out on the town
She always thought she’d feel better with people around
And sometimes someone would talk to her
But they’d always act more rushed than they were or they’d stare
She didn’t seem to care

She might not have heard what you said
(But) You cross her and she’ll curse you ‘til your face is red

Her daddy had no way to know
He always thought it was something that she would outgrow
But Molly was crazy into her bones
And he couldn’t afford to put her in a home, so he split
Molly barely noticed

One day Molly went to the priest
She felt she had demons she needed released
But the padre could see right through her dress
And when it was done they both had to confess they were glad
It was the best they’d had

She might not have heard what you said
(But) You cross her and she’ll curse you ‘til your face is red

Wishing Well

Boogaboo - Wishing Well

If I found me a wishing well
In the middle of a meadow green
I would throw all my money in, to be…
A little closer to my dream

If I found me a four leaf clover
In the middle of that meadow green
I would look it over and over to see…
Where could my true love be

Oh, you make me so happy
You make me feel brand new
I just wanna spend my life, in love, with you

If I found me a silly penny
Shining brightly in the rain
I would pick it up and pray…
I could see you once again

‘Cause you make me so happy
You make me feel brand new
I just wanna spend my life, in love, with you

‘Cause you make me so happy
You make me feel brand new
I just wanna spend my life, in love, with you

Bullet holes

Scarling - Band Aid Covers The Bullet Hole

Bees in the caramel and I’m not afraid
Surgeons make incisions - what a mess they’ve made
Tearing at my skin, leaving knives in my brain
Stabbing at the voices driving me insane

Girls vomit candy and lies that they’re fed
Boys whisper lullabies and wet their beds
Eat TV violence on the toast that they spread
Talking with their mouths full - here is what they’ve said:

Say hello to my little friend
The world is getting ugly and we did it again
Say hello to my little friend
The world is getting ugly and we did it again
Oh -oh - woah oh - oh - ohhh
The Band Aid only covers the bullet hole
Oh - oh - woah oh - oh - ohhh
The Band Aid only covers the bullet hole

La la la - La la la la la la

Spiders in my hair and guns on my mind
Thinking about the people who’ve been so unkind
If looks could kill them I might make myself blind
Startled at the reasons that I just can’t find

Kids break the dishes - they crash on the floor
Parents hate the noise and shove them out the door
Robots and robotics - I remember their thoughts
It gets them all excited - here is what they’ve said

Say hello to my little friend
The world is getting ugly and we did it again
Say hello to my little friend
The world is getting ugly and we did it again
Oh - oh - woah oh - oh - ohhh
The Band Aid only covers the bullet hole
Oh - oh - woah oh - oh - ohhh
The Band Aid only covers the bullet hole
Oh - oh - woah oh - oh - ohhh
The Band Aid only covers the bullet hole

This is about the girl

Birddog - Lighthouse

This is about the girl who lived by the lighthouse
She was just a kid and wanted me to play with her
But I said that I was reading
And I said that I was tired
And I said that I had work to do
She handed me a shovel

This is about the girl who lived by the lighthouse
She was just a kid that pulled on the beach towel
And she said she had no sisters
And she said she had no brothers
I said she was lucky
She picked up a dead fish

This is about the girl who lived by the lighthouse
She sat next to me and built a lump of sand
She said it was a castle
She said that we could live there
I said I had my own house
She said she’d burn it down
And she said she’d burn it down

This is about the girl who lived by the lighthouse
She asked me if we could go and get some ice cream
Said I wasn’t hungry
But I gave her a dollar
She wrapped it very tightly
She bounced it off my forehead

And this is about the girl who lived by the lighthouse
She jumped up to me ‘cause she heard someone hollering
Said it was her mother
And supper’s on the table
She said she hated meatloaf
She left me by myself
She left me by myself

Pop Goes The World

Barcelona - Pop Goes The World

Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass
The name of the band is the human race
Everybody tell me have you heard
Pop goes the world

Jenny played keyboard, Johnny played drums
Called little baby and a big bonhomme
Everybody tell me have you heard
Pop goes the world
It goes something like this

Johnny and Jenny had a crazy dream
See their pictures in a magazine
Every little boy needs a girl
Pop goes the world

Jenny and Johnny getting smart it seems
Made more money on a movie screen
Every little nest needs a bird
Pop goes the world

One two three and four is five
Everybody here is a friend of mine
Whatever happened to the Duke of Earl
Pop goes the world

Six seven eight and nine is ten
Send Al Gunn to see the doctor Ben
Say what planet are we on - the third
Pop goes the world

And every time I wonder where the world went wrong
End up lying on my face going ringy dingy ding dong
And every time I wonder if the world is right
End up in some disco dancing all night

Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass
The name of the band is the human race
Everybody tell me have you heard
Pop goes the world

Johnny played guitar, Jenny played bass
Ain’t nobody couldn’t take their place
Everybody tell me have you heard
Pop goes the world
Pop goes the world
Pop goes the world
It goes something like this

Walking With The Angels

Entry Level - Walking With The Angels

I wrote this song for you
I never got to say goodbye
I couldn’t say I love you
Now you’ve risen into the light
I could never think of you
As anything but strong and true
You used to sing songs about
Seattle’s skies of blue
Now your laughter and your wise words are what strengthen me
Pain tried to chain you but God released you and set you free
And I know that you’re walking with the angels
Walking with the angels

So I’ll remember and I’ll cherish all those memories
Summers spent down at the park
Trips downtown - fun was never too far
And I know I won’t forget you now
No, forget you now
You’ll live on in my heart
For now and all time surely we’ll meet again
I just can’t say when but I know in the end
Is that I’ll find you walking with the angels
Walking with the angels
Now you’re an angel

Stone In My Shoe

Sybaris - Stone In My Shoe

All of a sudden I just went away from you
It occurred to me one day
There was a feeling there was something left to do
Throughout the years

On my way I met a friend
Telling stories about you
He told me that you were not waiting in the rain
You’d got a lot of things to do

And it’s nonsense to believe
We could steer the course of love
‘Cause love is like November snow
When it comes nobody knows

I feel your breath in my back
As if it was a word from you
From my head to my heart
You are the stone in my shoe

Where I stay and where I go
On the moon or in the sea
In every thought, every deed, every day
I feel your breath in my back

And it’s nonsense to believe
We could steer the course of love
‘Cause love is like November snow
When it comes nobody knows

I feel your breath in my back
As if it was a word from you
From my head to my heart
You are the stone in my shoe

I feel your breath in my back
As if it was a word from you
From my head to my heart
You are the stone in my shoe

Camera One

The Josh Joplin Group - Camera One

The sandy haired son of Hollywood
Lost his faith in all that’s good
Closed the curtain, unplugged the clock
Hung his clothes on the shower rod
But he never got undressed
And, no, he never made a mess

It’s funny how life turns out
The odds of faith in the face of doubt
Camera One closes in
The soundtrack starts
The scene begins

You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
Take a bow
Take a bow

The trophy wife from Palisades
Whose Yearbook beauty never fades
Sits and watches the sea fold in
And wonders what might have been
If she could ever have the chance
Would she do it all again

It’s funny how life turns out
The odds of faith in the face of doubt
Camera One closes in
The soundtrack starts
The scene begins

You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
Take a bow
Take a bow

On the corner by his streets
He sits in his lawn chair in the heat
Sightseers see what they want
They’re selling Star-maps to the sun

The sandy haired son of Hollywood
Lost his faith in all that’s good
Closed the curtain, unplugged the clock
Hung his clothes on the shower rod
But he didn’t get undressed
And, no, he didn’t seem depressed

It’s funny how life turns out
The odds of faith in the face of doubt
Camera One closes in
The soundtrack starts
The scene begins

You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now
You’re playing you now

Old Fashioned Way Of Speaking

TW Walsh - Old Fashioned Way Of Speaking

Old fashioned way of speaking
All the pipes are leaking
If you notice it
This dent is now a crater
It’s not even any later
Than I think it is

A fortune worth repeating
All this cowardice is fleeting
If you fall for it
I saw orange turn to brown
The transformation made a sound
You might have heard it before

If it was permanent
The world would mean a whole lot less
To stay away for it
Takes more steam than I have left

The traitor for a living
Just got tired of the giving
In the Parliament
Enamored with the treason
That’s not any kinda reason
To go through with it

The car is overheating
The written word will lose its meaning
If you fall for it
There are motors in the ground
They make the most amazing sound
You might have heard it before

If it was permanent
The world would mean a whole lot less
To stay away for it
Takes more steam than I have left

Black Jacket

The Bloodkin - Black Jacket

I need a girl who knows how to wear a black jacket
Wear it with grace and style
I need a girl who wants to ride on the Ferris Wheel
Who knows the carnival behind the carnival

Hey, let’s cut it right down to the bone
If I burn the witch and roll the stone for you
Do you think you might do that, too
Are you coming through

And when the colored lights start flashing loud
I want to look right at a face I know
I wanna say: hey, did you see that one, baby
Are you ready to go home

Yeah, let’s cut it right down to the bone
If I burn the witch and roll the stone for you
Do you think you might do that, too
Are you coming through, yeah

Yes, I need a girl who knows how to wear a black jacket
Walking down the wedding aisle
I need a girl who wants to ride on the Ferris Wheel
Who knows the carnival behind the carnival
Who wears a black jacket, yeah
Here I come, wears it with grace and style
I know, wears it with grace and style

Me and the Bees

The Softies - Me And The Bees

Take it downstairs
No one here cares
Take it outside
Find some place good to hide
Now it’s just me and the bees
In a cyclone of falling leaves

Go for a ride
The road opens wide
Nobody knows
These trials and woes
Now it’s just me and the bees
In a cyclone of falling leaves

Caught in the wind
Coldest I’ve ever been
Too bad it’s true
I’m still in love with you
Now it’s just me and the bees
In a cyclone of falling leaves

Are 'Friends' Electric?

Jessica's Crime - Are Friends Electric?

It’s cold outside and -
And the paint’s peeling off of my walls
There’s a man outside
In a long coat, gray hat, smoking a cigarette

And the light fades out
And I wonder what I’m doing in a room like this
There’s a knock on the door
And just for a second I thought I remembered you

So, now I’m alone and I can think for myself
About little deals, SU’s and things I just don’t understand
Like a white lie that night or a sly touch at times
I don’t think it meant anything to you

So I open the door
It’s the ‘friend’ that I left in the hallway
“Please sit down”
A candlelit shadow on the wall near the bed

You know I hate to ask
But are friends electric ?
Only mine’s broken down
And now I’ve no one to love

So, I found out your reason for the phone calls and smiles
And it hurts, and I’m lonely and I should never have tried
But I miss you tonight so it’s time to leave
Can’t you see it’s meant everything to me

Shutterbug

Arlo - Shutterbug

I hear the click clack click of the camera eye
Bent by the rays of the summer sun
Fall sick and quietly
Drown in the cracks, in the cracks of her windshield
There is a wind that blows through the window
Slip, fall down and bump my little head
But there is no sympathy

Shutterbug, you are the end, you are the writing on the wall

I hung around with you in your bedroom
Counting all your fingers and your toes
To pose for photographs
Keeping the time with the flicks of your fingers
We fell asleep too tired to remember
All the things we did that afternoon
To make my summer head
Float like a bug on the skin of the water

Shutterbug, I could not wait to get my fingers on you
Shutterbug, you are the end, you are the writing on the wall

Shutterbug, you are the end, you are the writing on the wall

Tech Romance

Her Space Holiday - Tech Romance

I’m sick of seeing you cry
And wasting all your time
On someone who will never care enough
To make you feel loved
To make you feel safe
I would drop my life to take his place
To show you just how good
Being touched could be
Commit these words to memory

For when you find yourself
Pinned in his demands
I am still an option that you have
So carry me around
Like a picture in your purse
And pull me out when things are at their worst
You can show up at my house
Completely unannounced
We’ll have that movie kiss we talked about
Where there are no words
Just a soft and gentle score
Our ears will ring from all the strings

We’ll let the screen go black
And watch the credits run
And see the names of everyone
Who we ever met
And who we ever missed
Each one had a role in this

It’s just another film that won’t get made

I’m sick of seeing you cry

Displaced

Azure Ray - Displaced

It’s just a simple line
I can still hear it all of the time
If I can just hold on tonight
I know that nothing - nothing survives
Nothing survives

I think I’m turned around
I’m looking up, not looking down
And when I’m standing still
Watching you run - watching you fall
Fall into me

Am I making something worthwhile out of this place
Am I making something worthwhile out of this chase
I am displaced
I am displaced

And she’s my friend of all friends
She’s still here when everyone’s gone
She doesn’t have to say a thing
We’ll just keep laughing all night long
All night long

Am I making something worthwhile out of this place
Am I making something worthwhile out of this chase
I am displaced
I am displaced

It’s just a simple line
I can still hear it all of the time
If I can just hold on tonight
I know that no one - no one survives
No one survives

Feet First

Track Star - Feet First

Here comes the hardest part
But I don’t need you I can break my own heart
And I know to expect the worst
So when it falls apart I’m gonna land on my feet first

There goes your only friend
If it don’t work out you can always start again
But you know to expect the worst
So if it don’t work out you’re gonna land on your feet first

And so we’re strangers again after all we’ve been through
As only strangers would act the way I act with you
After all that I’ve tried to forget that I’ve said
It’s all the strangers in my life that make me regret

I don’t wanna fight ‘cause I know what’s right
You don’t have to drown in an ocean to die
I don’t wanna fight ‘cause I know what’s right
You don’t have to drown in an ocean to die

Blackout Curtain

Now It's Overhead - Blackout Curtain

Black out curtain stop the sun from melting sleep
Wake up in the dark and don’t know what time it is
Lay bodies down beside where dark reveals a truth
Through dreams of a brighter room where a sun can live
A gentle, softer sun to fade us into co-
-herence and to start a day born without regret
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here

Black out curtain drop. Lie there on the floor
Don’t block out our stars again, we must wish on them
A nearly falling first one projecting through
Our rooms and then shooting big as we place our dreams on it
But when barren empty night bears harsher day sunlight
We can’t see in arms the hope we could hold in them
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here

Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away
Don’t ever go away from here and I will never go away

One That Got Away

Anomoanon - One That Got Away

Baby, I don’t think about you all the time
But when I do it hurts me to
Think of how you eluded me
You uprooted me and left me to burn

Like the scent of a thousand cooking fires
In a sweet suburban lane
You belonged to me and I knew you
And the wind took you away

You weren’t really mine
Were you even there at all
I was bound to call you
A thousand times
Before you slipped into that heaven
That I dreamed of on my way

Heaven that I dreamed of on my way
(heaven that I dreamed of on my way)
Heaven that I dreamed of on my way
(heaven that I dreamed of on my way)
Heaven that I dreamed of on my way

A new drink

Crooked Fingers - New Drink For The Old Drunk

Would you try, could you buy a new drink for the old drunk
It’s no crime to resign misery with a bottle
Well, you walked into town without making a sound
And you slipped as you slammed your face into the crowd
As you tried to forget all the words that were said
To deny all the things that you keep in your head

When you came you were new but today you’re much older
You were spent so you went to get used in the corner
Where they kicked you around like a rodeo clown
And it echoed through town they were beating you down
And as they spread the word that you liked how it hurt
All at once you were cause for a pitiful cure

Hours pass by half forgotten
Night turns black ‘cause it’s rotten
And we slide right to the bottom
Our tongues made out of cotton
Eyes seal shut in a slumber
‘Til we hear someone mumble
Could you spare from the tumbler
A new drink for the old drunk

Now you waste all your days in the dark in the corner
Without light, without grace, where you wait for the slaughter
Where they spit in your face as the hours grow late
And they laugh as they lie and then seal up your fate
And you cringe as you binge to forget how you hate
All the doom in this pitiful room you create

Hours pass by half forgotten
Night turns black ‘cause it’s rotten
And we slide right to the bottom
Our tongues made out of cotton
Eyes seal shut in a slumber
‘Til we hear someone mumble
Could you spare from the tumbler
A new drink for the old drunk

Faces and beer

The Capitol Years - Faces And Beer

I’m gonna go
Where the wheels turn slow
Drive you home
Drive home alone
Somehow you missed
The train when it came
The roads were too slick
My words too plain
Go home
Please yourself
Don’t be sad
The day will come back

I wanna know
Don’t make me guess
Nervous reports
Were reaching your friends
Faces and beer
Unfold on the bar
Three singers appeared
The room was cleared
On the floor
Three dead microphones
Don’t be sad
Tomorrow, come back

Lies were told
Dimes thrown
Lines were blown
Crowds were formed
A chorus of whores
Danced by the doors
Where you stood alone
A crowd of your own
Solo
Please yourself
Don’t be sad
Tomorrow, come back

Mojave 3

Mojave 3 - In Love With A View

I had a plan
That was built on thinking too long
Canadian winters
At home with your sisters
The romance was hard to ignore
You were beautiful
I was happy to fall
So happy to fall

I remember you searching
I thought you were searching
That’s how I picked up the phone
Happy to hear you remembered the view
So glad to assume it was fate
I thought at the time it was clear
I thought at the time it was clear

So I stood at the station
With a plan and a pocket of poems
Heroically tragic
Bearded and blind with obsession
I’m a car without hope
Too close to the ditch to go far
I showed you my field
I said this is my field
But you weren’t impressed

You said why are we here
Your motives are clear
In this room with a view
And so much of you
Is so far from here
It’s so far from here
It’s so far from here
It’s so far from here

Oh my heart
It just fell apart
And I wished I could show you
The same view
Of you by the window and me
Feeling fine
And me just feeling fine
Yeah me just feeling fine

Golden Gate Bridge

Rose Melberg - Golden Gate Bridge

If you leave me now
I don’t know what I’ll do without you
I’ve heard one too many times
You don’t have time to argue

Too bad I have all these memories
Of you and me
I’ll throw them off the Golden Gate Bridge
And set you free

I’m sorry that you didn’t love me
Cross out that first time we kissed
I’m sure at one time you felt something
One fleeting moment I missed

Suddenly this hope there
Makes much more sense
For you my name, my number
And my heart are all past tense

I’m sorry that you didn’t love me
Cross out that first time we kissed
I’m sure at one time you felt something
One fleeting moment I missed

Next Time

Little Wings - Next Time

This is a note to the self situation
A microphone test of a dense dictation…
Last time, they tried to fit me in a funny suit
This time, they tried to fill my pocket full of loot
Next time, they’ll start to weep while I’m bailing
Next time, I’ll have to wade through their wailing
Last time, they had to hang me like a poster
This time, they rode me like a roller coaster
Next time, they’ll have to find me if they wanna try
Next time, they’ll have a long time to wonder why
I always turn my head when they walk by
I make-believe my shoelace came untied
Better yet, act like something’s in my eye
Oh, I gotta do what I don’t want to
High as the hates that hunt and haunt you
Pouring the paint you’re pealing, won’t you
Pull a pal away when he’s reeling, don’t you
Look at last time for one minute
I promise I’ll try
Look at this time, will and when it
With a gleaming in my eye
Look at next time, searching’s granted
Full power from the sky
Look at what the light does when we’re in it
So I wonder why I stop to wonder why
Last time, they spread me shallow like the gravel
This time, they struck me twice like a gavel
“Order in the Court!” What Court is the question
Give no retort, leave everybody guessing
Last time, they bent me over like a rainbow
This time, they stepped through me like a tango
Next time, I’ll abbreviate it so
They won’t lose their breath every time they say it, oh
I’ll keep a song inside their head in bloom
Feed it sweet light, fertilize it with some tunes
If words are the risk, then music’s the perfume
Oh, sung from the mouth of friend or stranger
A dangerous bird or bird of danger
If you can keep up, well, why won’t you
Songs everywhere so I sing it, don’t you
Look at last time for one minute
I promise I’ll try
Look at this time, will and when it
With a gleaming in my eye
Look at the next time, searching’s granted
Full power from the sky
Look at what the light does when we’re in it
Now I wonder why I stop to wonder why
Last time - last time
This time - this time
Next time - next time
I’ll try - I’ll try - I’ll try - I’ll try - I’ll try

The moon was paper white

Tanya Donelly - The Night You Saved My Life

In the beginning my love was fierce
One heart stopped and another started
I flashed my eyes, cracked wise and left them dry
Now I sit with my babe at my breast
I was never this good at my best
Never higher
The moon was paper white the night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind
The wood was closing in, foggy was the night
The night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind

I spy with my third eye
Something volatile and vital
So say goodnight, sleep tight, don’t let them bite
Now I stand with the wind at my back
Every day brings a new breed of jackass
I was never good at monkey-in-the-middle
Never a fighter
The moon was paper white the night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind
The wood was closing in, foggy was the night
The night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind
The moon was paper white the night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind

Crashing The Afterglow

Versus - Crashing The Afterglow

Walking down the yellow brick road, you left a clue
Crumpled up the photograph you had with you
Giving up the suitcase life and leaving your wife
There’s a tunnel at the end of the light

Don’t know what to say to you
Standing on the window sill
Don’t know what to say to you
Now you’ve swallowed your last pill
Don’t know what to say to you
Firing flares into the night
And everything is alright

Crashing the afterglow in dingy whites
Bleeding from the seven year itch, you lie in it
Bathing in the milk of the past and drowning fast
Just pretend you’re colorblind and you’ll be fine

Don’t know what to say to you
Standing on the window sill
Don’t know what to say to you
Now you’ve swallowed your last pill
Don’t know what to say to you
Firing flares into the night
And everything is alright

Cursing like a four-letter word
Phony like a three-dollar bill
Sell the ticket to your heart
Baby, you’re a one-way street

Rice Dream Girl

Casiotone for the Painfully Alone - Rice Dream Girl

I was in the Safeway store
When I saw you in Aisle 4
I swear you looked so nice
You were buying milk that was made out of rice
I tried to think of something clever to say
But you were already walking away
In an attempt to get my groove on
I offered you my White Castle coupon

The radio was playing Seal
I tried to tell you how I feel
But then our shopping carts locked wheels
And the moment just seemed wrong

Oh, won’t you do what’s right
Put your groceries in my car tonight
I wanna take you home

Oh, with your eyes of blue
I want to drink rice milk with you
I’ll be your one and only
So we won’t be so lonely

This is not a bill

Varnaline - Indian Summer Takedown

It could’ve been the start
Of something big, just a part
When the light gets like that, I explode
Now, color me depressed
All my nerves got undressed
Turn the tables on the stars and now it’s gone

Too far gone
How can you go on
Too far gone
How can you go on
Indian summer takedown

It came out wrong
All the words were too strong
There’s no keeping track of what goes bad
Standing on a ledge
Where the toes meet the edge
Thinking of that day when things went right

Too far gone
How can you go on
Too far gone
How can you go on
Indian summer takedown

This is not a bill
A notice or a will
Every meaning has a word that never fits
Came in to the cold
Well, that light was just gold
October copy with my hand out at the door

Too far gone
How can you go on
Too far gone
How can you go on
Indian summer takedown

There is no goal

Adam Green - Dance With Me

Heart and soul
Baby, there is no goal
Turn the lights on bright
You’re a rock and roll star

Feel my love
Coming from the heavens above
When my eyes meet your eyes
You know it’s true

Baby, come dance with me
Baby, come dance with me-ee
On TV at the TV station
Baby, come dance with me
Baby, come dance with me-ee
On TV at the TV station

You are lost
And I’m at home
And nobody wants to be
Here alone

Ooh, baby’s in mint condition
Man, I’m doing some dirty wishing
Let’s both get on
That rocket to the stars

Baby, come dance with me
Baby, come dance with me-ee
On TV at the TV station
Baby, come dance with me
Baby, come dance with me-ee
On TV at the TV station

Baby, come dance with me
Baby, come dance with me-ee
On TV at the TV station
Baby, come dance with me
Baby, come dance with me-ee
On TV at the TV station
Baby, come dance with me
Baby, come dance with me-ee
On TV at the TV station
Baby, come dance…

Giant X's on your eyes

Low - Sunflower

When they found your body
Giant X’s on your eyes
And with your half of the ransom
You bought some sweet, sweet, sweet
Sweet sunflowers
And gave them to the night

Underneath the Star of David
A hundred years behind my eyes
And with my half of the ransom
I bought some sweet, sweet, sweet
Sweet sunflowers
And gave them to the night

Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet sunflowers
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet sunflowers
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet sunflowers
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet sunflowers
And gave them to the night

I'm gonna call your name

The Verna Cannon - Expecting An Answer

I spend nights looking for you
In places I never would have set foot in the daytime
And your name makes such a sad soliloquy
In the middle of the street
I might be standing right on top of you
But to know that would take some intuition
Every story I tell myself
Seems like it never could have happened
All your friends and enemies look blankly at me
And I wonder what they know
I’m gonna call your name
I’m gonna call your name
Shouldn’t I call your name like I’m expecting an answer

Did I make you up?
Someone convince me that I have
Then it won’t feel so bad
If you don’t show up
Well, I could dream a pretty scene
A strange girl showering you with love
Well, that’s the best place for me
To hang my imagination
You never know when you pose for a missing sign
But, I’m…I’m gonna call your name
I’m gonna call your name
Shouldn’t I call your name like I’m expecting an answer

Waitin' And Datin'

The Naysayer - Waitin' And Datin'

Guess maybe I lived too fast
Drinking the beer and smoking the grass
At the young age of twenty-eight
I find I’m knocking at the Pearly Gates
Yes, Miss. Yes, Miss. Come on in
We know you well - you’ve hardly sinned
Real - think of my eternal life
And just once more kiss the love of my life
No, Miss. No, Miss. Lives in another world
He might even end up with some other girl
That’s when with full-strength it hit me
I’d be really screwed if you quit me
I’m in heaven waiting
You’re down there dating
Running around to paint the town
My hands are tied - I’m not around
I was anticipating a reunion in the sky
But it looks like you might change your mind before you up and die

Sitting here on my cloudy perch
And I watched you meet that dark-haired girl after church
Watched you take her to the honky tonk
And y’all joined at the hip during the slow love song
She raised her eyes to your pearly lips
And I knew right then I was on a sinking ship
I looked around with a tear in my eye
At all the other lonely angels in the sky
And I realized
We’re in heaven waiting
Y’all be down there dating
Running around to paint the town
Our hands are tied - we’re not around
We were anticipating a big reunion in the sky
But it looks like y’all might change your minds before you up and die
Looks like y’all might change your minds before you up and die

Triptych

Ida - Triptych

Did we give away too much or was it right
I just wanna go back home and hold you tight
I can’t face another crowd and feel this way oh no oh no

I’m falling into every little trap that I can find
Reading too much into every single sign
I can’t face you with the others all around oh no oh no

I need some time to breathe
I can’t fix what’s wrong

Well, this world I see is only two lanes wide
From this midnight van to Georgia that we ride
And the toll booths become markers of the time oh no oh no

We come and go so fast
Looking for what lasts

Analog Girl

Ken Oak - Analog Girl

I see you walk around your room
Wearing out my button down
Staring at your every move
TV’s on - don’t hear a sound
But you and the madness that these walls have seen
You and the things you mumble while you dream
I must be crazy
Look what you made me
I must be crazy
Look what you made me

My bread and butterflies
Schizophrenic little girl
Hip hop from the underground
The soundtrack to your little world
You and the madness that these walls have seen
You and the things you mumble while you dream
I must be crazy
Look what you made me
I must be crazy
Look what you made me

Stare at you - you stare at you
Yeah, the secrets that that mirror could tell
About you and the madness that these walls have seen
You and the things you mumble while you dream
You and the madness that these wall have seen
You and the things you mumble while you dream
I must be crazy
Look what you made me
I must be crazy
Look what you made me

Look what you made me

Jason Lee

All Girl Summer Fun Band - Jason Lee

Couldn’t sleep last night
I turned on the TV
It was one of those late-night talk shows
And sitting there with Carson D.
Slagging MTV

Was Jason Lee
Doing kick flips in my dreams
Jason Lee

I never realized how much
You are just like me
I used to skateboard
But I wasn’t very good
We both like obscure music
And we’re both 33

Jason Lee
Doing one-nine-oh degrees
Jason Lee

They say:
Never fall in love with a celebrity
It’s just weird and it’s wrong ‘cept with you and me
I don’t care what they say this was meant to be

Take me to your movie premiere
Wearing cheap clothes, smuggling beer
I don’t care for Hollywood
And I’d kiss you if I could

Doing kick flips in my dreams

Every war has them

Red Delicious - Casualties

We are the casualties, no one tells you about us
You’ll hear stories, but you have to live to believe
We’re the bodies piled up by the roadside
You’ll smell us burning, it’ll give you bad dreams
Don’t run away, we’re a cautionary tale
Walk softly and take heed
Don’t offer us your sympathy
You don’t know what we need
We’re the lost and the forsaken
Screaming just to hear a voice
A sound to fill the empty spaces
A hand to hold and still the shaking

We’re the spineless, the skinless and the broken
You’ll be a crutch ‘cause we can’t stand on our own
You’ll gather ‘round us to comfort and heal us
But the nature of our pain will remain unknown
Don’t come to me for happiness
I’m an open pit and you will just fall in
Don’t ask me what my problem is
I wouldn’t know where to begin
We’re the lost and the forsaken
Screaming just to hear a voice
A sound to fill the empty spaces
A hand to hold and still the shaking
We’re the wasted and the weary
Giving up and falling down
We’re the needy, sick for your love
A hand to hold and still the shaking
Let it go and lay it down
A drug to take to stop the aching

I get so tired of holding up
I get so cold that I am chilled to the bone
I cry so hard, it knocks me down
I just don’t want to be alone
We’re the lost and the forsaken
Screaming just to hear a voice
A sound to fill the empty spaces
A hand to hold and still the shaking
We’re the wasted and the weary
Giving up and falling down
We’re the needy, sick for your love
A hand to hold and still the shaking
Don’t offer sympathy, ‘cause you don’t know what I need
I’m so tired of holding up, that I’m giving up and falling down
I don’t want to be alone, and it chills me to the bone
So don’t ask me what’s wrong, it’s been going on so long, I don’t know
I’m wasted and I’m cold and I need a hand to hold
And the nature of my pain remains unknown even to me
I’m screaming for the sound, to feel like someone’s ‘round
Let it go and lay it down, and fill the empty space with love

I hope you never leave

The Softies - Sleep Away Your Troubles

If I beg you will you smother me
Just to put me out of my constant misery
This is too much for me to bear
You’d know this, too, if you ever had been there

I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you never leave me

I wander through these empty halls
As the moon casts shadows of just me upon the walls
My time wasted in endless regret
While you sleep away your troubles and forget

I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you will never leave me
I hope you never leave me

I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you will never leave me

Will you get up?

Azure Ray - If You Fall

Let’s talk and we’ll fill the air
With imagery that lasts forever
So this is love, yeah, that’s a lovely thought
You have to care for it to keep it together

And if you fall will you get up
You’re stuck in a dream will you wake up
And if you fell in love will you hold on to it
And if it’s cold will you stay warm
You drift too far will you swim towards the shore
And if you fell in love will you hold on to it

Let’s just sing and we’ll fill the air
With melodies that blend together
You speak so sweet with words so delicate
A glass I hope will never shatter

And if you fall will you get up
You’re stuck in a dream will you wake up
And if you fell in love will you hold on to it
And if it’s cold will you stay warm
You drift too far will you swim towards the shore
And if you fell in love will you hold on to it
And if you fall will you get up
You’re stuck in a dream will you wake up
And if you fell in love will you hold on to it
And if it’s cold will you stay warm
You drift too far will you swim towards the shore
And if you fell in love will you hold on to it
And if you fall will you get up
You’re stuck in a dream will you wake up
And if you fell in love…

Prince cover

Crooked Fingers - When U Were Mine

When you were mine
I gave you all of my money
Time after time
You’ve done me wrong
Was just like a dream
You let all my friends come over and meet
You were so strange
You didn’t have the decency to change the sheets
Oh, girl, when you were mine
I used to let you wear all my clothes
You were so fine (so fine)
Maybe that’s the reason that you hurt me so
I know (I know) that you’re going with another guy
I don’t care (don’t care) ‘cause I love you, baby, that’s no lie
I love you more than I did when you were mine

When you were mine
You were kinda sorta my best friend
So I was blind
I let you fool around
Well, I never cared
I never was the kind to make a fuss
When he was there
Sleeping in between the two of us
I know (I know) that you’re going with another guy
I don’t care (don’t care) ‘cause I love you, baby, that’s no lie
I love you more than I did when you were mine

When you were mine
You were all I ever wanted to do
I’d spend my time
Following him whenever he’s with you
I know (I know) that you’re going with another guy
I don’t care (don’t care) ‘cause I love you, baby, that’s no lie
I love you more than I did when you were mine

Nizlopi

Nizlopi - JCB Song

Well, I’m rumbling in this JCB
I’m 5 years old and my dad’s a giant sitting beside me
And the engine rattles my bum like berserk
While we’re singing: ‘don’t forget your shovel if you want to go to work’

And my dad’s probably had a bloody hard day
But he’s being good fun and bubbling and joking away
And the procession of cars stuck behind
Are getting all impatient and angry but we don’t mind

And we’re holding up the bypass, oh-oh
Me and my dad having a top laugh, oh-oh
And I’m sitting on the tool box, oh-oh
And I’m so glad I’m not in school, boss, so glad I’m not in school, oh no

And we pull over to let the cars pass
And pull off again speeding by this summer green grass
And we’re like giants up here in our big yellow digger
Like Zoids or Transformers or maybe even bigger

And I want to transform into a Tyrannosaurus Rex
And eat up all the bullies and the teachers and their pets
And I’ll tell all my mates my dad’s BA Barachas
Only with a JCB and Bruce Lee’s nunchaku’s

And we’re holding up the bypass, oh-oh
Me and my dad having a top laugh, oh-oh
I’m sitting on the toolbox, oh-oh
And I’m so glad I’m not in school, boss, so glad I’m not in school

And we’re holding up the bypass, oh-oh
Me and my dad having a top laugh, oh-oh
I’m sitting on the toolbox, oh-oh
And I’m so glad I’m not in school, boss, so glad I’m not in school

Said: I’m Luke, I’m 5 and my dad’s Bruce Lee
Drives me ‘round in his JCB
I’m Luke, I’m 5 and my dad’s Bruce Lee
Drives me ‘round in his JCB
I’m Luke, I’m 5 and my dad’s Bruce Lee
Drives me ‘round in his JCB
I’m Luke, I’m 5 and my dad’s Bruce Lee
Drives me ‘round -
We’re holding up the bypass, oh-oh
Me and my dad having a top laugh, oh-oh
And I’m sitting on the toolbox, oh-oh
And I’m so glad I’m not in school, boss, so glad I’m not in school, aw
Said: I’m Luke, I’m 5 and my dad’s Bruce Lee
Drives me ‘round in his JCB
I’m Luke, I’m 5 and my dad’s Bruce Lee
Drives me ‘round in his -
I’m Luke, I’m 5 and my dad’s Bruce Lee
Drives me ‘round in his JCB

Interesting cover

Sexton Blake - Making Love Out Of Nothing At All

I know just how to whisper
And I know just how to cry
I know just where to find the answers
And I know just how to lie
I know just how to fake it
And I know just how to scheme
I know just when to face the truth
And then I know just when to dream
I know just where to touch you
And I know just what to prove
I know when to pull you closer
And I know when to let you loose
And I know the night is fading
And I know time’s gonna fly
And I’m never gonna tell you everything I’ve got to tell you
But I know I’ve got to give it a try
And I know the roads to riches
And I know the ways to fame
I know all the rules and then I know how to break ‘em
And I always know the name of the game
But I don’t know how to leave you
And I’ll never let you fall
And I don’t know how you do it
Makin’ love out of nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all

Every time I see you all the rays of the sun
Are streaming through the waves in your hair
And every star in the sky is taking aim at your eyes like a spotlight
The beating of my heart is a drum and it’s lost
And it’s lookin’ for a rhythm like you
You can take the darkness from the pit of the night
And turn it to a beacon burning endlessly bright
I’ve gotta follow it ‘cause everything I know
It’s nothing ‘til I give it to you

I can make the runner stumble
I can make the final block
And I can make every tackle at the sound of the whistle
I can make all the stadiums rock
I can make tonight forever
Or I can make it disappear by the dawn
And I can make you every promise that has ever been made
And I can make all your demons be gone
But I’m never gonna make it without you
Do you really wanna see me crawl
And I’m never gonna make it like you do
Makin’ love out of nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all
Nothin’ at all…

The world is flat

The Montgolfier Brothers - The World Is Flat

I got my theories and I got my points of view
The world is flat and I still have a chance with you
God is good and life is fair and
Heaven’s waiting so I’ll meet you there and
They’ll call last orders’ down the kings and we won’t fight
I’ll walk you home and tuck you in at night and we’ll -
We’ll watch the dawn get mugged on Chapel Street
And we will raise a family

I’ll be the apple of your parents’ eyes and
They’ll raise a glass to us and I won’t drink the bottle dry
We’ll wake each morning and we’ll count our lucky stars
There’s no relationship as strong as ours and
We’ll share in half our problems, we’ll talk our worries through
There’ll be no little secrets that I hold back from you
You’ll find fulfillment and I won’t play away
And we can only get stronger

You’ve got suspicions and you say you’ve got proof
That my commitment’s flawed and I can’t speak the truth
That I am lost and I am scared and
The lawyer’s waiting so I’ll meet you there and
They’ll call our number and we won’t put up a fight
We’ll split the pension and I swear I’ll see you right
Where there was hate, well, please let there be calm
Before the storm besets us

You know I’ll love you ‘til the day I die and
I’ve got my reasons but please don’t ask me why
We’ll wake alone some nights and wish on falling stars
That no one makes the same mistakes as ours and
We’ll never share our problems or talk our worries through
And all those little secrets will make their way to you
You’ll find fulfillment, I’ll play and lose away
And we won’t raise that family

Unveiled

The Veils - Wires To Flying Birds

They’re forming in circles from over my head
Calling in silence
I can only fall apart
And I feel their wings go

They’re falling in pieces from over my head
Calling in silence
I can only fall apart
And I feel their wings go

They bind me in violet with my love in my head
My heart now an island
I can only fall apart
And I feel their wings go
And I feel their wings go

Ah’s

And I feel their wings go
And I feel their wings go
And I feel their wings go

An open letter

Biirdie - Open Letter To Jenny

Jenny I’m jealous of the way you move
You are uncharacteristically perfectly cool
So perfect and sweet with your red hair and charms
I can’t take it, they shake me, these false alarms - false alarms

In a Rambler in Reno that’s when you let me know
You were a mean little bitch so young but so cold
To a frizzy-haired girl, bug-eyed and round
I wanted to love you but you put me down - put me down

Jenny I’m jealous of the things that you say
Up Crescent Heights to Sunset and through the canyons you play
In my car, that’s where stars fall
Is it all it’s cracked up to be?
Is it all it’s cracked up to be?
Do you want to be free?

Oh, Jenny I’m jealous of the way you move
You are uncharacteristically perfectly cool
So honest and good - please, baby, please
Save your bullets, don’t drop the rock on me - rock on me - rock on me
Take it away, Biirdie:
Ooh-wooh, ooh-wooh
Ooh-wooh, ooh-wooh
Ooh-wooh, ooh-wooh - ah ah ah
Ooh-wooh, ooh-wooh - ah ah ah
Ooh-wooh, ooh-we-oh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-wooh, ooh-we-oh, ooh-ooh
Ooh-wooh, ooh-we-oh, ooh - ah ah ah
Ooh-wooh, ooh-we-oh, ooh-ooh
Oh, Jenny I’m jealous but I think - think it’ll be okay

The question is simple

The Boy Bathing - The Questions Simple

Listen to me singing through the microphone
Like I’m talking through the wires of a telephone
It’s a couple of notes higher than a baritone
Getting quieter ‘til you can barely hear a note

‘Cause every poem I’ve written you can take apart
The questions can be simple but the answers hard
How can I finish if I never start
How can I love you with a broken heart

I’m giving it a week until I quit the band
No thousand records sold and no biggest fan
No more summer touring sleeping in the van
No five dollars at the door, hey man, stamp my hand

‘Cause I could’ve been a doctor with a stethoscope
Listening to hearts and writing doctor’s notes
But I’m not leaving the band - it was just a joke
I’ll be coughing out a song so I can clear my throat

Until it’s time to die I’m gonna drown myself
I don’t wanna be responsible for no one else
Into the Pacific with a white sail blowing
A hole into the bottom of the ocean

How can I be sorry for the things I’ve done
How can I be finished if I’ve not begun
I’m not even sure I wanna try again
Every day begins and every sun does set

How’s it gonna matter if I die today
Maybe one less car on the Interstate
If the clouds are gonna gather than it’s time to rain
How will I feel better when I feel the same

If one is just a start but two's a perfect number
You were healthy appetite and I am hunger
Maybe in a couple weeks when I get better
We can see a movie or just do whatever

I see her in the hallway like a ballet dancer
If she would fall I would be there to catch her
I can make you happy by your side forever
If you want to call me I’ll be there to answer

I’m taking half the year to go explore the world
Maybe find out that it spins around in one big circle
Makes me wish for something like a greater purpose
Something when we die that we can take down with us

Something that will fit inside an empty casket
Twenty friends there only to spread the ashes
I want to be the one to cause a chain reaction
Maybe make a difference before something happens

‘Cause lately they’ve been talking of a big disaster
Something everyone will have to clean up after
Forget all of things that I can’t remember
Running through the rye, but there is no catcher

I remember summer’s that were joy and laughter
Everyone was having so much fun together
Now it seems the seasons all go by much faster
I’m lonesome for the empty fields where nothing matters
Where nothing matters
